Trauma-informed psychotherapy

If you’ve learned to stay alert, put your own needs aside, or disconnect from parts of yourself in order to cope, therapy can sometimes feel daunting. You may worry about being overwhelmed, judged, or expected to revisit painful experiences before you’re ready.

Trauma-informed psychotherapy begins somewhere different. It starts by recognising that the ways you’ve adapted may once have helped you survive, and that healing happens most safely within a trusting therapeutic relationship.

What does trauma-informed mean?

Being trauma-informed means paying attention not only to what has happened to you, but also to how those experiences continue to shape the way you relate to yourself, other people, and the world around you.

It means working at a pace that feels manageable, with care for your sense of safety, choice, and control throughout the process.

You don't have to tell the whole story

Many people come to therapy worried they’ll be expected to talk about painful experiences straight away. In reality, there is no pressure to tell your story before you feel ready.

Sometimes the work begins simply by noticing how you experience the present moment, building trust, and understanding the patterns that developed to help you cope.

Trauma can show up in everyday life

You might find it hard to express your needs.

You always put others first.

You feel disconnected from yourself.

You struggle to trust people.

You are being constantly on alert.

You are feeling numb.

You have harsh self-criticism.

How I work

My approach is collaborative rather than prescriptive. Together we pay attention to what feels important, moving at a pace that respects your nervous system rather than overwhelming it.
