Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between counselling, psychotherapy and therapy?

What is therapy? It’s a broad umbrella term for an activity that brings about therapeutic change, relief, acceptance, or empowerment to pursue a goal. There are lots of different types of therapy, called approaches, all with the same aim of support you when you need it most.

My training has been Integrative Counselling with TA, meaning that I have the core model of transactional analysis into which I integrate other approaches. In my style of therapy, you are the lead, and I am the follower, and the key ingredient of therapy is a trusting and secure relationship between the therapist and the client.

What can I bring to therapy?

Anything that feels heavy, confusing, painful or important. I work with people who have come with anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, identity questions and those who simply have a desire for more clarity and self-understanding.

How many session do I need?

It varies, some people seek short-term work (6-12 sessions), others prefer long-term therapy. It depends on what brings you to therapy. However, I work on the basis of a minimum of 6 sessions as research has shown that this offers an optimal balance between getting enough support and giving you time to process things between sessions.

What about confidentiality?

As a therapist, I will provide a confidential environment. I will not discuss what we talk about in sessions outside of the therapy room. Unless the information divulged falls under an exception of confidentiality. I am required to attend supervision in order to ensure that you receive the best possible service. Any information the supervisor has about you will be treated in confidence.

What are the session fees?

Individual sessions last 50 minutes, taking place on a weekly basis, usually at the same time/day, and cost £60 per session.

You can book via the Calendar or by contacting me via email.

What is the cancellation policy?

I operate a week’s notice of cancellation. If you choose to cancel your session within that week a fee of £30 is payable.

I understand things can happen last minute and I will do my best to reschedule your appointment, but this is not always possible.

This cancellation policy is really important for my counselling practice as I reserve a full hour of my time for  you and all my other clients. Please read the full cancellation policy here.
