Psychotherapy for young people and children

Young people and children can experience tough times. These can range from academic stress, friendship challenges, questions about their identity, neurodivergence or trying to cope with the increasing demands of school life.

Therapy for young people and children will be a place where they can be heard, process unfamiliar emotions and by developing new skills.

We do this by:

  • being playful and creative
  • talking about what is going on
  • learning about relational work
  • listening to bodily sensations

All sessions are confidential . However, I work on the principle that we all grow up in relationship with the world and others and therefore it is important to work closely with parents too.

The first session will be with both the parents and the young person or child. The following sessions, the young person or child will attend the weekly sessions. Depending on the agreed duration, parents will be invited to a review session half way through and at the end.

Psychotherapy for adults

Prologned stress and trauma will affect us on many levels – our thoughts, emotions, behaviour and body.

Counselling and psychotherapy is about self-exploration, looking into places that hurt and can be scary.

Trauma-informed relational therapy places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work.

Somatic practices can help us gently reconnect with our body’s signals. Both compliment each other to create understanding about ourselves.

We can do this by:

  • exploring how your past has shaped your thinking
  • building understanding of emotional triggers in the body
  • exploring what self-compassion can look like
  • building understanding of our fight/ flight/ freeze/ fawn responses

What to expect

If you are wondering what therapy might look like, here’s what you can expect when we work together:

The first sessions.

In the first session we will take some time to get to know each other and I might ask questions to gather more information about you and the reason for seeking support. We will take time to build our relationship. We will take time exploring your goals and your needs. Everything that you bring is welcome – we will build a space that feels safe and where you can be truly heard. You will be treated with respect and confidentiality

The journey

Depending on your goals and needs we will set out a plan to work on together. Some people need short-term work, others prefer long-term therapy. It depends on what brings you to therapy. We will have regular check in conversations to make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.

Collaboration

Therapy is a collaborative process of which you are at the centre. It involves being curious, reflective and deeper insight. I may provide, always with your consent, strategies, tools, creativity and exercises to help build understanding of both body and mind, to build self-compassion and confidence.
